I read in the Trib today about Charter having outages (again) and it effecting their phone service. It's one thing to have your cable TV go out, but not having phone service for half a day is pretty bad.

Over 12 years ago I participated in a study on the subject of phone service over cable tv. My biggest concern back then was that cable TV services weren't that reliable and would be a problem if phone service experienced similar outages as cable TV. Well...here it is 12 years later and guess what is happening. I just don't think that highly of Charter to put my phone service on their network. It's bad enough when we have a 2 second power outage and their Internet service is down for hours because they need to send someone out to reset their equipment in one of their wiring buildings.

I can't remember a time when my Pac Bell/AT&T phone service was ever down....
